During the eventful tour, you will have a rare chance to immerse yourself in the fascinating history of Minsk, the capital of the Republic of Belarus, tracing its development through different eras. Minsk has gone through a long path of formation, starting from ancient times and belonging to the Principality of Polotsk, then to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Russian Empire, passing to Soviet Belarus and the modern sovereign state. You will see outstanding historical and architectural monuments: the elegant Peter and Paul Church of the 17th century and the famous "Red" Church of the early 20th century. Exploring the ancient Nemiga Street will take you to the origins of the city — from the Minsk Castle to the Upper Town with its unique historical flavor, preserved for more than five centuries. Here you can admire the unique buildings of the XVII–XIX centuries.
On the main city square, Svobody— you will have the opportunity to explore local attractions: the majestic town hall, ancient shopping malls, the historic Gostiny Dvor and a number of religious buildings (among them the monasteries of the Bernardines, Basilians and Jesuits). Among the most significant architectural monuments of the square are the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit and the Catholic Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary, restored after the revolutionary upheavals. You will be able to feel the spirit of the former urban life under the jurisdiction of Magdeburg law and learn about the activities of the city authorities of that time. Walking along Freedom Square, you can also take photos next to original sculptural compositions — a carriage from the beginning of the last century or city scales.
Next, the route will take you to the spacious avenues of Minsk with their monumental buildings of the Soviet era of constructivism. Special attention is drawn to the central artery of the city — Independence Avenue, which itself has become an example of this architectural trend. You will also see modern symbols of the Belarusian capital: the innovative building of the National Library of Belarus and the large sports and cultural complex Minsk Arena. The tour will not ignore the tragic pages of Minsk residents during the Great Patriotic War and the impressive development of the city in the late XX — early XXI centuries.
The guide's informative story will acquaint you not only with the key historical events of past eras, but also with the biographies of prominent personalities of the city. The end of your trip will take you for a walk through the picturesque Troitsk Suburb, an area with an indescribable atmosphere of the old days of the XIX—XX centuries, which is now alive with museums, antique souvenir shops and cozy cafes in the colorful interiors of taverns of past generations. Completing the walk, you are guaranteed a vivid experience, where the spirit of antiquity combines the relevance of a modern cultural and tourist destination, ending your day with a standing ovation.
